Preparing a Good

Hot Tub Foundation

  • Concrete Pad (4" or thicker)
  • Wood Decking (with concrete foundation for hot tub)

Hot Tub Foundations: You need a good, solid hot tub foundation. The area that it rests on must be able to support the weight of the hot tub, the water in it, and those who use it. If the spa foundation is inadequate, it may shift or settle after the hot tub is in place causing stress to the hot tub's shell.

  • Place the spa on an elevated foundation so that the water drains away from it.
  • If you install the spa indoors, pay close attention to flooring. Remember, a hot tub filled with water can cause moisture damage.
  • A hot tub filled with water is heavy. If you are installing on an elevated structure, it is recommended that you consult a contractor or structural engineer to find specific hot tub requirements for decks.
  • There is a 4" minimum depth requirement for a concrete pad. It is strongly recommended that a qualified, licensed contractor prepare the spa foundation.
  • Your surface must be level and straight.

Planning the Best Location for Your Hot Tub Installation

Safety First!

  • Do not place your hot tub or spa within 10 feet of overhead power lines.
  • Make sure access to the hottub's equipment panel is not blocked.
  • Be certain that your installation will meet all city and local safety codes.
